Some of our sponsors have already started thinking about the most suitable area of their business to highlight for young people. Ideally this will give young people a real insight into their business. Most of the activities will be designed to be brief to provide teachers and trainers with maximum flexibility in their use. Two taster activities follow.
Example 1: What is logistics?
Some of the resources that Business on the Move will link to already exist. In such cases Business on the Move will signpost busy teachers and trainers to them and provide suggestions for their possible use. For example, this CILT/FTA video clip would make an excellent introduction to playing the game.
Example 2: Who can help?
All these acronyms refer to organisations involved in the supply chain and all are sponsors with business summaries on our website:
BITA, CHEP, CILT, FSDF, MSC, RHA, RFG, TIR, TT Club, UKWA
Use the name of each organisation once only – who would you approach if you:
a) wished to export goods by sea to Africa?
b) were considering building a new depot near a motorway junction?
c) wanted to explore career pathways in transport management?
d) wished to increase the quantity of goods that your business transports by train?
e) were concerned about forklift safety?
f) needed some help to pass a written transport exam?
g) had a question about how many hours your truck drivers are allowed to drive without a break?
h) needed to insure your business for any damage to cargo while it was being transported across the world?
i) wanted to improve training for your staff involved in delivering products where the temperature must be carefully controlled?
j) wished to make better use of pallets?
